The cutter lays the cotton or linen out flat overnight so the cloth can settle, then marks the pattern pieces in chalk. Rushing that step shows up later as a twisted seam, so we do not rush it.<\/p><p>The machinists work in small runs, thirty to sixty pieces at a time. That keeps the room calm and lets us fix a fit problem the same week we spot it.<\/p><p>Shirts and dresses get flat-felled seams, which take years of washing without fraying. Knitwear is linked by hand at the shoulder, slower but kinder on lambswool. At the end of a run someone presses every piece and checks the buttons.<\/p><h5>Small runs, steady hands<\/h5><p>Nothing leaves the room until it has been looked over twice.
