teachers share one room at break, and most of the old furniture was older than the teachers.<\/em><\/p><p>The school governing body came to us after a parent saw our work at a Pretoria guesthouse. The staffroom had wobbly plastic chairs, a laminate table held up with folded cardboard and cupboards that would not close. Money came from a fundraiser, so every rand counted. We kept the plan simple.<\/p><p>We made two Table Mountain Dining Tables, joined end to end to seat twenty, and forty Fynbos Oak Dining Chairs. Chairs have felt pads so they do not scrape the tiles.<\/p><p>Along the back wall we fitted three Stellenbosch Sideboards with locks on every door. Each teacher now has a shelf for marking, tea and a spare jersey. We finished the oak in a hard oil that a caretaker can touch up.<\/p><h5>Built for Highveld winters<\/h5><p>Pretoria winters are dry, and cheap timber cracks. We used kiln-dried oak and sealed the end grain.
