Most of our Business English students start with the same worry: speaking up in meetings and interviews. Fatima Essop, our Business English facilitator, tells them to practise a little every day. Read one short article aloud each morning. Write three sentences about your workday each evening.
Small habits add up faster than one long weekend session.
Confidence in English grows when you speak it often, even if you make mistakes at first. Fatima EssopAt our Umhlanga campus, students practise real workplace conversations such as phone calls, emails and short presentations. Ask a colleague or classmate to correct you kindly, and keep a notebook of new words.
Practise speaking every day
Find a study partner and speak English for ten minutes a day. Talk about your job, your plans or the news. Record yourself on your phone and listen back. You will hear where to slow down and which words need work.
Build a workplace vocabulary
Write down words from emails, notices and meetings at work. Learn five new words a week and use them in a sentence. Our facilitators check this list with you in class and help you use each word naturally.
