A Guide for Teachers Using Online Lessons

Many teachers in Khayelitsha now use short online lessons to support their classes. Start small. Pick one topic, share a lesson link on WhatsApp and ask learners to watch it at home.
Keep videos short so they use little mobile data. Ask learners to send back one question after each lesson.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson MandelaZanele Mahlangu, our Learner Support Officer, helps teachers set up a first online class at the hub. Call 021 555 0376 to book a time.
How to plan your first online lesson
Choose one skill and teach it in ten minutes. Write down three questions learners should answer afterwards. Send the lesson on WhatsApp in the evening, when data bundles are cheaper, and give learners two days to finish.
Keeping learners on track
Check in with a short voice note. Praise small wins. If a learner falls behind, ask what is stopping them, often it is data or a shared phone. Offer printed notes from the hub where needed.
