HOW A DIVORCE MATTER IS HANDLED

Divorce is stressful, so we keep the process as simple and predictable as we can for your family.

At the first meeting we listen and explain the difference between an unopposed and a contested divorce. We look at how you are married, in or out of community of property, because this affects how assets are divided. We also discuss children, maintenance and the family home.

If you and your spouse agree on the main issues, we draft a settlement agreement and a parenting plan, which are then made part of the divorce order, which keeps things clear for everyone.

If you do not agree, we try to settle through negotiation or mediation first. When court is needed, we prepare you for each step and explain the costs involved along the way.

What you will need

Please bring your ID, marriage certificate and any antenuptial contract. Recent payslips and bank statements help us advise you accurately. If children are involved, list their monthly costs, such as school fees and medical aid. Everything you share with us stays strictly confidential.
