Five service items people skip and regret

A car can look fine and still be hiding small jobs that get skipped. Most cost little to sort out early, but turn into big bills once left too long. Here are five we see most often, and what skipping them really costs you later.

None of them need a full service booking. A quick check at your next oil change is usually enough to catch them in time.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid pulls in moisture over time, even if the pedal still feels normal. Old fluid boils at a lower temperature, so stopping power drops exactly when you need it most, like on a long downhill stretch.

A flush every two years is cheap. Waiting until the pedal feels soft usually means replacing calipers too, not just fluid.

Cabin Filter

A blocked cabin filter makes the aircon work harder and lets dust and pollen straight into the car. It's one of the cheapest parts on the whole vehicle, yet it's often never mentioned during a quick service. Swapping it takes ten minutes and makes a real difference on dusty Highveld roads.

Add wheel alignment, coolant strength and clean battery terminals to the list. None of these show up as a warning light, so they only get noticed once something else fails first. Ask for all five to be checked next time your car is in for a service, and you'll avoid most of the bills that catch owners by surprise.
