Caring for colour treated hair

Colour treated hair needs more care than hair that hasn't been lifted or tinted. The colour sits in the hair shaft, and washing with harsh products fades it fast. We recommend a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner made for colour, like our Repair Shampoo and Smoothing Conditioner.

Cooler water helps too. Hot water opens the hair cuticle and lets colour wash straight out, so a lukewarm rinse keeps your colour looking fresh for longer.

Wash less often

Try to stretch washes to two or three times a week. Use a dry shampoo in between if your roots feel oily, and finish with a cool rinse to help seal the colour in.

Heat styling can be just as rough on colour as the wrong shampoo. If you blow dry or straighten often, use a light heat protectant first, and keep the tool on a lower heat setting.

The sun fades colour too, especially reds and coppers. A hat or a leave in spray with UV filters helps on hot days. Come back for a gloss top up every six to eight weeks to keep things even.

Keeping it fresh

Between salon visits, a weekly hair mask makes a real difference. Our Argan Hair Oil also works well on dry ends, just a drop or two rubbed through before you style.

Marietjie, one of our colour specialists, always says the shampoo you use at home matters just as much as what happens in the chair.
