How to pick a cut that suits your face

Your face shape is the starting point for choosing a cut, not the only thing that matters. Texture and how your hair grows play a part too.

Bring a photo if it helps, or just tell us what you'd like to change. We'll talk through options, including a soft fringe or longer layers, before we start cutting.

Face shape

A round face usually suits a cut with some height and layers that break up the width, while a long face often looks great with a fringe to shorten things visually. Soft layers work on most shapes, which is why they're one of the most requested cuts we do.

Hair texture

Thick, curly hair holds a blunt cut differently to fine, straight hair, and the way your hair grows decides where a cut will naturally fall. Cowlicks and natural partings matter more than most people think, so we check these before we cut, not after.

First visit

At your first visit, bring a photo of a cut you like, even if your hair looks different now. It gives us a starting point to talk from. We'll also ask about your daily styling routine, because a cut that looks great blow dried but takes forty minutes every morning isn't always the right fit.

Pick what suits your face

Growing hair out is easier with regular trims every six to eight weeks, even if you're not changing the style. A quick shape up keeps split ends from working their way up the hair shaft and makes the in between stages far less annoying to deal with.

If you're not sure what to ask for, describe how you want your hair to feel rather than naming a style. Say you want less weight on top or something easier to manage in the mornings, and we'll turn that into a cut that actually works for your hair.
