Why Learning Close to Home Works for Township Youth

Learning close to home saves money and time. Our learners walk to the hub instead of paying for a taxi into town, and they study in a place where people speak their language.
It also builds community. Learners help each other, share phones and cheer when someone passes.
Education is the great engine of personal development. Nelson MandelaAyanda Qwabe started her catering coaching in a Khayelitsha garage with six learners. Today she teaches at Ekasi Learn Hub, and many of her learners now sell food from home.
Why local matters
When a course is taught by someone from your own area, the examples make sense. Prices, customers and challenges look familiar, so it is easier to start using what you learn straight away.
Learning that leads to work
Our short courses are built around real jobs in Cape Town, from office work to catering and web design. Many learners get their first paid job or first customer within months of finishing.

Good advice for learners and teachers. I like how simple the steps are, especially for people studying on a phone with little data. Well done!
