Dressing your stoep for Winelands summers
Long, warm summers in the Winelands mean the stoep often becomes the most used room in the house. To enjoy it fully, start with shade. A pergola, umbrella or outdoor blinds make a huge difference on hot afternoons. Then think about how you will use the space, for long lunches, quiet mornings with coffee or evening drinks with friends.
Choose outdoor furniture made for the conditions, such as powder-coated aluminium, treated hardwood or synthetic weave. Outdoor fabrics resist fading and dry quickly after a summer shower. Bring cushions inside or cover them when not in use to extend their life. A few potted plants and a lantern or two complete the look.
