Choosing the right size rug

One of the most common styling mistakes we see is a rug that is too small for the room. It ends up floating in the middle of the floor and makes the furniture look disconnected. In a living room, aim for a rug large enough that at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs sit comfortably on it.

Under a dining table, the rug should extend far enough that chairs stay on it when pulled out. In bedrooms, a large rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed works well, or use runners on either side. Before buying, mark the size on the floor with masking tape to see how it looks in your space.
