Hanging a shelf or mounting a TV is much easier when you use the right bit for the wall. Face brick and plastered brick need a masonry bit and a hammer drill, while solid concrete may need an SDS drill for larger holes. Tiles need a dedicated tile or glass bit and a gentle approach to avoid cracking them.
On tiles, stick masking tape over the spot to stop the bit slipping, start slowly without hammer action and switch to a masonry bit once through the tile. Always check for hidden pipes and cables before drilling. Choose wall plugs and screws rated for the weight you are hanging, and ask us if you are unsure.
