Making power tool batteries last longer

Batteries are often the most expensive part of a cordless tool system, so it pays to look after them. Modern lithium-ion batteries do not need to be fully drained before charging, and they actually prefer being topped up regularly. Heat is their biggest enemy, so avoid leaving them in a hot bakkie or in direct sun on a summer day.

Store batteries indoors in a cool, dry place, and in very cold Free State winters let them warm up to room temperature before charging. Use the charger designed for your battery range, and keep the contacts clean. If a battery stops holding charge or becomes damaged or swollen, stop using it and bring it in for advice.
