Corded or cordless: which tools should you choose?

Cordless tools have improved enormously, and for many household jobs they are now the obvious choice. They are easy to carry around the property, there are no cables to trip over and they keep working during load shedding if your batteries are charged. For drilling, driving screws and light cutting, a good cordless kit covers most needs.

Corded tools still make sense for heavy, continuous work such as long sessions with an angle grinder, a large router or a tile cutter. They often cost less for the same power and never run out of charge mid-job. Many DIYers end up with a cordless kit for everyday use and one or two corded tools for bigger projects.
