Workshop Tips

Setting up a home workshop

A good home workshop does not need a lot of space. A corner of the garage with a sturdy workbench, decent lighting and enough plug points is a great start. Plan the layout around how you work, with your bench near the power supply and enough room to handle long lengths of timber or move around safely.

Wall-mounted pegboards and shelves keep tools visible and off the bench. Store screws, bolts and fixings in labelled containers so you can find them quickly. A shop vacuum helps control dust, and a fire extinguisher should be within reach. Start with the tools you need for your next project and build your collection over time.
