Hanging mirrors and frames without damaging your walls

A crooked mirror is easy to spot  so mark the centre first and work outwards.

Hanging too high is the most common mistake. The middle of a frame should sit about 150 cm from the floor, near eye level for most people.

Check what is behind the wall before you drill. Pipes and cables run in straight lines, so look above plugs and switches first.

Cut paper to the size of each frame and tape it up. Move the shapes around until the spacing feels right, then drill.

A neat row of frames starts with paper templates taped to the wall.

A spirit level and a pencil cost very little, yet they save the most patching and repainting later.
