SMART HOME UPGRADE IN WALMER
The owners wanted to control their alarm, lights and gate from one app without chasing cables through old plaster walls.
We started with a site visit, checking the alarm panel, gate motor and Wi-Fi in every room. The house had thick walls, so we planned a mesh Wi-Fi network first, because every smart device needs a steady signal. The owners then got a written quote.
On day one we fitted a new wireless alarm hub, door and window sensors and two indoor motion sensors. The old siren was kept and connected to the new hub.
On day two we fitted smart switches in the lounge, kitchen and passage, added a gate motor controller and installed a geyser timer. Everything was linked to one app and tested.
What the owners use most
The good night routine is their favourite. One tap arms the outdoor sensors, switches off the lights and closes the gate. The geyser timer heats water only when needed, which helps keep the electricity bill down. During load shedding the hub and router run on backup battery, so alerts still reach their phones.
