Getting your bike set up to fit you
A bike that fits you right makes every ride easier, from a quick spin to the shops to a full day on the trail.
Start with saddle height, then move on to reach and handlebar position. Our in store fit check takes about twenty minutes and covers the basics every rider needs to feel comfortable.
Saddle height
Saddle height affects your knees more than any other setting on the bike. Sit with your heel on the pedal at the bottom of the stroke, your leg should be almost straight. Small steps work best, move the saddle a few millimetres at a time and ride for a week before changing it again.
Handlebar reach
Reach is the distance between your saddle and your handlebars. Too long and you will feel stretched out and sore in the lower back. Too short and the bike feels twitchy at speed. Stem length and spacer height both play a part, and a short test ride tells you quickly if a change is working.
Cleat position
Clipless pedals only work well when your cleats are set up correctly. Line the cleat up so it sits under the ball of your foot, not further back, and leave a little float so your knees can move naturally. A shop fit with the correct tools gets this right in minutes.
Cursus aliquam
Small changes make a big difference. A saddle that sits a centimetre too low strains your knees over a long ride. Book a fit check with us before your next big ride, especially if you are moving from a road bike to a mountain bike.
