How to Choose the Right Font for Your Small Business Brand
A good logo file is only the start. Most small brands in Stellenbosch and Cape Town need a full kit: a font pair, a few icons and a clean portfolio page that loads fast on a phone.
Start with one typeface and stick to it. Add a simple icon pack and a mockup, so clients see the work in context before they say yes.
Keep it simple
Pick two fonts, one main colour and a layout with plenty of space. Present everything in a single file the client can open anywhere. Small, tidy projects get approved faster and cost far less to revise.
Mockups save time when a client wants to see the idea before the final file. Drop your artwork into a scene, adjust the light, and send a preview the same day. It looks professional and it costs very little.
Keep your files tidy
Name layers clearly and keep fonts in one folder. When a client asks for changes in six months, you will find everything quickly. Our Packaging and Branding Mockup Kit comes with labelled layers and a short guide to get you started.
Thandi Mokoena, Brand Designer
Thandi uses the Overlap Geometric Sans Font Family for almost every client pitch. It stays clear on a phone screen and holds up on signage. She pairs it with a simple colour palette and lots of white space, which keeps her layouts calm and easy to read.
Naledi Dlamini, Web Designer
Naledi built her first client site with the Canvas Portfolio Website kit in one weekend. She swapped the fonts, added her own photos and launched on Monday. Her advice is to keep the layout plain, show three strong projects and put your contact details where clients can see them straight away.
Price your work with care
Many new freelancers charge too little because they fear losing the job. Work out your monthly costs first, then add time for admin and revisions. Share a clear price with each quote. Clients in Stellenbosch and Cape Town respect a designer who explains what is included. Use ready-made templates to speed up repeat work, and keep your rates fair for both sides.
