Table Mountain Hiker
R2,150.00
A laced hiking boot with a padded collar and a grippy rubber sole.
CUT AND STITCHED
Fit runs true to UK sizing, with a roomy toe box and a heel that holds without slipping. If you are between sizes, take the larger one and let the leather settle. Measure your foot flat against a wall in centimetres and send us the number if you are unsure. Thirty-day returns, and a cotton shoe bag with every pair.
Sizing runs in South Africa sizes with the EU equivalent on the box, and most people take their usual size. If you are between sizes, go up: leather gives a little across the width but never in length. We list the last width on every page, so check it before you order.
Every pair ships in a cotton shoe bag with a short care card. Courier delivery is R150 anywhere in the country, free over R1800, and you have thirty days to send a pair back if the fit is wrong.
FULL SPECS
Our bench sits at the back of the shop on Sir Lowry Road, and most days you can watch a pair take shape while you wait. The pattern is traced onto the hide by hand, cut with a round knife, then skived thin where the seams overlap so the joins lie flat against the foot. Uppers are stitched, pulled over the last and left to settle for a few days before the sole goes on. Linings are vegetable-tanned calf or soft goat, depending on the model, and the thread is waxed linen that holds even when the leather softens. We keep the lasts, so a repair years later still matches the pair you first bought.
The upper is a single piece of full-grain hide, cut so the stitch line falls where the foot bends and never digs in across the toes. Inside sits a soft leather lining and a cork footbed that takes the shape of your arch. The welted sole can be replaced on our bench, which is why we stitch the shoe rather than glue it shut.
MADE BY HAND
Every pair that leaves our workshop on Sir Lowry Road starts as a full hide laid flat on the cutting table, where we look for the grain that will hold its shape after a year of daily wear. We cut the uppers by hand, one shoe at a time, because leather stretches differently across the back and the belly and a pattern press cannot tell the difference. The lining is soft vegetable-tanned calf that darkens as you wear it in.
The sole is stitched, not glued, so it can be taken off and replaced when the tread finally wears thin. Bring the pair back to us and we will resole it rather than sell you another. Sizes run UK 3 to UK 12, with a standard and a wide last, and we are happy to talk you through the fit before you order. Every pair ships in a cotton shoe bag, with a courier delivery of R150 anywhere in South Africa and no charge over R1800. Thirty days to return it if the fit is wrong.
Every pair in the Veldstride range starts as a flat hide on the cutting bench, and each upper is closed by hand before the sole goes on. Nothing is rushed through a machine line.
Wear them in slowly. Saddle soap and a soft cloth keep the grain fed, and when the sole thins we will stitch a new one on.

CARE AND FIT
Leather needs a little attention and not much else. Wipe the dust off after a long day, let wet pairs dry slowly away from a heater, and give the uppers a thin coat of cream every month or so.
HOW TO LOOK AFTER THEM
- Use cedar shoe trees overnight to hold the shape.
- Rotate pairs so the lining has a day to dry.
- Bring worn soles back to us before the welt goes.
Sizing runs true in South Africa and EU. If you are between sizes or have a high instep, phone the workshop on 021 555 0164 and we will talk it through.
