Exploring Cape Town’s best walking routes in comfy takkies
Cape Town is made for walking. From the Muizenberg boardwalk to the Kalk Bay harbour, there is a route for every mood and every pair of takkies. Pack water and a light jacket.
Our favourite coastal path to Kalk Bay is flat, scenic and easy on the knees. Start early, stop for coffee at the harbour and take the train back. Comfortable sneakers with a cushioned cork footbed make the day much easier.
Boardwalk strolls
The Muizenberg boardwalk is a gentle start for first-time walkers. The sand is firm at low tide and the views of the surfers are worth the trip. Wear light shoes that drain and dry quickly. Bring sunscreen and a hat. Stop at the colourful beach huts for a photo before you head home.
Harbour walks
Kalk Bay harbour is a short walk along the coast from Muizenberg. Fishing boats unload their catch in the morning and the smell of fresh bread drifts from the cafes. Watch your footing on wet cobbles and slippery slipways. A grippy natural rubber sole helps. Take your time and enjoy the sea air.
Mountain trails
For something steeper, try the trails above Muizenberg Peak. The path is rocky in places, so lace up properly and carry water. Pick a clear morning for the best views over False Bay and the long beach below. Hemp sneakers breathe well on warm climbs, and a shoe bag keeps your pair clean in the car afterwards. Let them dry before storing them.
Walking Routes
Cape Town is a city made for walking, and the right pair of takkies makes every route easier. From the Muizenberg promenade to the Kalk Bay harbour, the paths are flat, sandy and often wet. Hemp uppers breathe in the heat and dry fast after a sea mist. Pick a pair with a grippy natural rubber sole and you will walk further with less ache. See our walking sneakers for the ones we wear ourselves.
Our favourite routes start close to the workshop. Walk the Boyes Drive ridge for views over False Bay, then drop down to St James tidal pool for a swim. On cooler days, try the Sea Point promenade, which is flat and easy underfoot. Pack a water bottle and a hat, and wear socks that wick moisture. Our bamboo fibre socks keep feet dry on long days. Brush off the sand afterwards and let your sneakers air in the shade.
