Thandeka Mkhize
Centre Director, Slimkop
Hi! I’m Thandeka. I run Slimkop Learning Centre in Durban North, where I have taught for many years. I love seeing a child go from nervous to confident in class. I live nearby, and I know most of our families by name.
Years in the Classroom
Before starting Slimkop Learning Centre, Thandeka taught Physical Sciences and Maths at schools in Durban and Pietermaritzburg. She has served on parent committees and helped run holiday programmes for local learners. Most recently, she led the school support team at the centre, setting up small groups for Grade 7 to Matric. Many of her learners moved up at least one mark level in a single year.
Since then she has focused on making good tutoring affordable for families in Durban North. In 2019 she opened the Afternoon Homework Club, which has grown into one of our busiest programmes. She was also named Durban North Community Educator of 2025.Workshops
I have spent years learning what helps children understand Maths and Science, and I am glad to share that with your family at our centre.
I have taught Grade 12 Maths in Durban North for many years and I enjoy seeing learners gain confidence.
