How to Study Faster and Remember More

Most students try to learn by reading their notes again and again. It feels useful, but it does not stick. A better way is to close the book and test yourself on what you just read.
Space your study over several days instead of one long night. Twenty minutes today, twenty tomorrow and twenty at the end of the week works better than two hours in one go.
Explain the topic to a friend in your own words. If you get stuck, that is exactly where to study next. Lerato Khumalo, Exam Preparation CoachSleep, water and a proper meal also matter more than most students think. Our free 30-Day Study Fitness and Wellbeing Plan shows you how to fit all of this into a busy week.
Use active recall
After each lecture, cover your notes and write down everything you remember. Then check what you missed. Flashcards on your phone are perfect for this, and they work offline, which helps when data runs low or the power goes out.
Study in short blocks
Work for 25 minutes, then rest for five. After four blocks, take a longer break. Switch subjects between blocks so your mind stays fresh. Write your plan on the Studiepoort timetable so you can see your progress each week.
