Thandiwe Mokoena
Academic Writing Lecturer
Hi! I’m Thandiwe. I lecture academic writing and I love helping students find their voice. For the past few years I have taught first-years how to structure essays, reference properly and write with confidence. I grew up in Soweto and now live in Pretoria.
Teaching and Experience
Before joining Studiepoort, Thandiwe lectured at two Gauteng colleges and ran writing support sessions for first-year students at a university in Pretoria. Active in student life, she also coordinated peer tutoring groups on campus. Most recently, she led our Academic English Writing and Grammar course as lead lecturer and course designer. After finishing her class, most students said their essay marks went up.
Since then she has focused on bringing her classroom experience online. In 2023 she launched the Referencing and Avoiding Plagiarism Online course, which has become one of our most popular courses on Studiepoort. She was also voted Studiepoort Lecturer of the Year 2025.Diplomas
I have spent years working out how to teach writing skills in a classroom, and I am excited to share what I have learned with you here.
