Pieter van der Merwe
Web Development Instructor
Hi! I’m Pieter. I’m a developer who loves teaching. I have spent years helping people in Gauteng learn to build websites, and many of my students now work as junior developers. I also run a small web studio in Fourways.
Teaching and Industry Experience
Before joining Kursusmark, Pieter worked as a web developer at two Johannesburg agencies and lectured part time at a local college. Most recently he led a six month web development programme in Sandton as lead instructor. After finishing his class, 9 out of 10 students went on to find paid developer work or freelance clients.
Since then he has focused on bringing that classroom experience online. In 2021 he launched his React Web Development from Scratch course, which has become one of the most popular courses on Kursusmark. He was also voted Kursusmark Instructor of the Year 2025.Education
I have spent years finding the best way to teach technical skills in a classroom, and I am excited to finally share what I know with you online.
I can say that my online courses are practical, clear and built for how South Africans learn, often on a phone.
