How to Mount Your TV Safely on Brick and Drywall

1. Design

Big picture, rich sound

The soundbar is slim enough to sit under most TVs without blocking the remote sensor. It has a fabric front and a matte black body. The wireless subwoofer is compact and fits beside a couch. Setup took us about ten minutes, with one HDMI cable and a power plug. It looks neat on a TV stand.

2. Sound

Big picture, rich sound

Dialogue comes through clearly, which is the main reason most people buy a soundbar. Music has good body, and the subwoofer adds weight to action scenes without rattling the shelf. Night mode keeps loud scenes down so the neighbours and the kids sleep. At full volume, the bass can get boomy in small rooms.

Thandi Mokoena

“A good TV setup should feel simple. Hide the clutter, pick the right size for the room and let the picture and sound do the talking. Everything else is extra.”

Our testing focused on films, football and a few playlists. Football commentary stays clear and crowd noise has a nice spread. Films with strong scores, like action and sci-fi, benefit most from the subwoofer. Music is decent for casual listening, but a pair of Bookshelf Speakers will beat it for stereo detail. For a flat or a small lounge, though, it is hard to fault at R2,999.

4. Connectivity

Bluetooth and HDMI ARC

HDMI ARC is the easy option, as one cable carries sound from the TV. An optical input covers older TVs too.

Bluetooth lets you stream music, podcasts and radio from your phone. Pairing takes seconds, and the soundbar remembers the last device it connected to.

Control it from your TV remote

Most TVs pass volume control to the soundbar over HDMI, so one remote does the job. You can leave the soundbar remote in a drawer.

If your TV is older, the soundbar learns the volume buttons from your existing remote in under a minute. Our team can show you how in store.

Reasons to buy

  • Strong bass output
  • Clean dialogue sound
  • Pairs with up to three Bluetooth devices

Reasons to avoid

  • Remote buttons are small and hard to read
  • Limited EQ settings
  • Bulky subwoofer needs floor space

5. Verdict

A small wireless keyboard makes a smart TV much easier to use. Typing a Wi-Fi password or searching a streaming app with a remote can take ages. A compact keyboard with Bluetooth pairs in seconds and works from the couch.

Look for one that can switch between your TV, phone and tablet. Check the battery life too, since a good one lasts months. Ask in the shop and we will pair it with your TV before you leave.
