What to look for in a power bank
Capacity numbers on the box are not what you actually get. A 10,000mAh power bank gives you maybe two phone charges once conversion loss is counted. Judge a power bank by real output, not the biggest mAh figure printed on the label.
Check the number of ports too. If you often charge a phone and earbuds at the same time, two ports beat carrying two power banks.

Fast charging only matters if the power bank supports the same standard as your phone. A bank with a high output number but no PD or QC support will still charge slowly.
Match the charging standard to your phone, not just the watt number on the box.
Also check for pass-through charging, so the power bank can charge your phone while it charges itself from the wall.
If you are not sure which power bank suits you, come through to Hoesbox and we will talk you through it. We only stock power banks we would use ourselves, built to handle daily charging without wearing out your phone's battery over time.

Before you buy, check how the power bank charges itself. Some take hours over a slow cable, which is no good if you need it ready the next morning. Look for one that charges fully overnight on a normal cable.
Also check the display. A simple light or percentage screen tells you how much charge is left, so you are not guessing whether it will get you through the day.
A power bank is only as good as the cable you plug into it.
A power bank is a long term buy, not a once off. Spend a bit more for one with proper safety features, and it will still be working well after the cheap ones have swollen up or stopped holding charge.

If you travel a lot, pick a power bank under the airline carry on limit, usually printed on the box. Most of ours fall well under this, so you can take them on flights without any hassle at the gate.
Keep it in your bag, not your car.
Heat is the real enemy of any battery, power bank included. Leaving one baking in a hot car over summer shortens its life fast. Store it somewhere cool and it will keep its charge and last years longer.
Try to charge your power bank before it drops to empty, and unplug it once it is full. Letting it sit flat for weeks on end is the quickest way to shorten its lifespan, power bank or phone.

Output wattage decides how fast your phone charges, not just how big the battery is. A high capacity power bank with a weak output will still charge slowly, so check both numbers before you decide.
The best power bank is the one you actually remember to carry.
That is why we keep smaller, lighter options on the shelf too. A power bank you leave at home because it is too bulky is no use to anyone.
Pop into Hoesbox and we will help you match a power bank to your phone and your routine, whether that is daily commuting, weekend trips, or just backup for load shedding.

Size and weight matter once you carry the power bank daily. A slim bank that fits in a pocket gets used far more than a heavy brick left in a drawer.
Buy the power bank you will actually carry, not the biggest number on the box.
Check for safety certifications and use a good cable, since a cheap cable undoes a good power bank.
