Meet the Knoppie: designed and tested in Claremont

The Knoppie Smart Display 7 Charcoal is now in stock at our Claremont shop. It sits neatly on a counter or desk, shows your calendar, recipes and camera feed, and responds to your voice from across the room. Setup takes a few minutes with the Knoppie app, and we are happy to help by phone on 021 555 0155.

Sound Tips

Our new range was tested in Cape Town homes before it reached the shelf. We placed each speaker in flats, houses and offices, then asked the people living with them what worked and what annoyed them. The feedback shaped the buttons, the battery and the carry strap.

Most testers said the same thing: they wanted less fuss. So pairing is one press, and the speaker remembers your phone. That is the feature we are proudest of.

Every Knoppie product is checked by hand in Claremont before it leaves the shop. We test the battery, the Bluetooth range and the sound at low and high volume. Anything that is not right goes back for fixing.

If something does go wrong, bring it to 4 Main Road or send us a message on WhatsApp. We would rather sort it out quickly than leave you with a speaker that does not work.

Load shedding does not have to mean silence. A fully charged Knoppie speaker plays for hours without mains power, and it keeps your music going while the lights are off.

Charge your speaker and earbuds before the schedule starts, and keep a power bank near the sofa.

Smart plugs help too. Switch off the things you do not need during an outage, and the battery in your gadgets lasts much longer for the things you do.

Many Cape Town homes are already using smart plugs, lights and speakers together. The Knoppie fits in easily, and you can control it from your phone or with your voice. Start with one room and see how it goes.

A good first step is a speaker in the kitchen and a smart plug on the kettle. Once that works, add a camera at the front door. Take your time, and ask us in the shop if you get stuck. We are happy to help with the setup.

Battery Life

Where you put a speaker changes how it sounds. Keep it off the floor, a little away from the wall, and pointed at the room instead of into a corner. Most people hear the difference straight away.

In a lounge, a low shelf or a side table works well. In a kitchen, the counter is fine, as long as it is away from the kettle and the sink. Bass gets stronger near walls, so move it a hand's width out if the sound feels boomy.

Try two or three spots and listen to the same song each time. Keep the one that feels best.

Knoppie started in a small workshop in Claremont, a few minutes from the Main Road. We wanted one speaker that sounds good, pairs fast and does not need an app to get going. Every unit is tested by hand before it is packed and sent to you.

If your Knoppie ever gives trouble, bring it to us or send it back. We would rather fix it properly than have you put up with it.
