Looking after your lenses the right way
The fastest way to scratch a lens is to wipe it dry. Dust sits on the surface and a cloth just drags it across the coating. Rinse the lens under a cool tap first, add a drop of lens spray, then dry it with a clean microfibre cloth. Never use a shirt sleeve or a paper towel.
Keep the hard case in your bag rather than at home. Most of the frames we repair were sitting loose in a handbag or on a car seat when the damage happened.
