Starting a Side Business While You Study Online

Many of our students start a small business while they are still studying. It is possible, but keep it simple. Begin with one service, one price and a few clients you already know, such as neighbours, friends or former colleagues.
Use what you learn right away. Someone taking our Digital Marketing Basics course can plan a week of posts for a local hair salon. That is practice and income at the same time.
Start small, charge fairly, and let each client teach you something for the next one. Chantelle Adams, Digital Marketing CoachKeep your costs low and keep your records tidy from the first sale. Set aside fixed hours for study and fixed hours for clients so one does not eat the other. Slow weeks will come, and that is normal.
How to choose your first business skill
Start with the skill people around you already pay for. In many Johannesburg neighbourhoods that means websites, social media, bookkeeping and tutoring. Pick one and learn it well before adding another.
Learning while you earn
Take on a small paid job after your first few lessons. Real clients show you what the course cannot. Keep a short list of questions and bring them to our next live class.

Really clear explanations. I like that you mention data costs and load shedding. A helpful resource for learners and teachers alike.
