How to care for a hat box arrangement
Hat box arrangements come with their own foam or water base, so you don't need to add a vase. Top up the water every few days using a small jug, and keep the box out of direct sun.
Tip: lift the lid off completely while the flowers are in water, and check the base hasn't dried out before you leave for the weekend.
Topping Up The Foam
Pour water slowly along the inside edge of the box, never over the flowers, and check it twice a week.
Keep the box away from fruit bowls, ripening fruit gives off a gas that ages the blooms faster than normal.
Trim any flower that starts to droop or brown rather than leaving it in place, one tired bloom can affect the ones around it. A hat box usually holds its look for five to seven days with regular topping up. After that, the roses and fillers tend to go first while proteas and greenery often last a few days longer. Keep an eye on the foam level the whole time.
When To Refresh The Box
Most hat box arrangements last seven to ten days if you keep the water topped up and remove any flowers as they fade. Cutting a centimetre off woody stems like roses helps them keep drinking.
Never let the foam or water dry out completely. Once a hat box arrangement dries, the flowers wilt fast and there is no bringing them back.
