Sweet seat: a useful seat for IT folks

If you work in IT, you probably spend half your day at a desk and the other half kneeling under one. A good chair will not fix bad posture on its own, but it makes it a lot easier to sit properly for long stretches without your back complaining by lunchtime.

Look for a chair with real lower back support and seat height you can actually adjust. Armrests that move help too, especially if your desk has a keyboard tray or a second monitor angled off to the side.

Start with the basics

Your screen should sit roughly at eye level, your feet flat on the floor, and your elbows close to a right angle when typing. Small changes like these do more for comfort than an expensive chair ever will.

A cluttered desk slows you down more than people realise. Loose cables tangle, chargers go missing, and you end up hunting for the right lead every time you need to charge something. Ten minutes of tidying saves you that frustration every single day.

Small fixes that help

Try a short cable clip to keep your charging lead off the floor, and a dedicated spot on your desk for the charger you use most. It sounds small, but it cuts out a lot of the daily searching and swearing.

A tidy desk and a decent chair will not make you love Mondays, but together they take away two of the small daily frustrations that add up fast.
