Selling

Compliance certificates you need when selling

When you sell a home in South Africa, you are generally required to provide an electrical certificate of compliance before transfer. In Cape Town, a plumbing certificate is also usually required, and some properties need gas, electric fence or beetle certificates depending on what is installed and what the sale agreement says. Your conveyancer will confirm exactly what is needed before transfer.

Arranging these early avoids delays at the conveyancer's office and gives you time to fix any faults the inspectors find. Repairs can take longer than expected if parts are needed. We give sellers a clear list of the certificates likely to apply to their property and can recommend accredited contractors to carry out the inspections.
