When Boekrak Learning began, many of our lecturers had only taught in a classroom. Moving online meant learning new habits, and the students told us quickly what worked.
Short videos helped. So did a reply within a day. Pieter van der Merwe, our Web Development Lecturer, now answers every question by voice note or short message.
Students stay when they feel someone local is actually paying attention. Pieter van der MerweHe also learned to keep lessons under ten minutes and to give one small task after each. Completion rates in his courses went up, and the questions became better too.
Answer students quickly
A slow reply makes a student feel alone. We aim to respond within one working day, even if the answer is only that we are checking. Our support team in Stellenbosch shares the load so nothing waits over a weekend.
Keep lessons short and clear
Break each topic into small steps with one task at the end. Students on slow connections or small screens can then finish a lesson on a bus ride, without losing their place when the network drops.

Good article for teachers. The advice on moving lessons online is clear and easy to follow. I will try it with my Grade 9 learners.

Helpful read for students and lecturers alike. The points on mobile learning in our schools matched what I see every day. Well done.
