Many families ask us how to pay for university after matric. The good news is that money is available, but the deadlines are early. NSFAS opens applications in the last months of the year, and most bank and company bursaries close even sooner.
Gather your documents first: ID copies, parent income proof and your latest school report.
Apply to more than one bursary and keep copies of everything you send. Lerato Molefe, Matric Programme CoordinatorAsk your school or our centre in Menlo Park to check your forms. A missing signature is the most common reason an application is turned down.
Where to look for bursaries
Start with NSFAS, then check the university you want to attend, since many have their own funds. Banks, mining companies and professional bodies also offer bursaries for strong Maths and Science learners. Make a list with the closing date of each one and tick them off as you apply.
Writing a good motivation letter
Keep the letter to one page. Say who you are, what you want to study and why. Mention your marks, your sport or community work, and your plan after graduating. Ask a teacher to read it before you send it, and check the spelling twice.

Clear and practical article. I shared it with my Grade 11 class group and we are already trying the revision timetable ideas before the November exams.
