How to Study Faster Around Load Shedding

Load shedding makes long study sessions hard, so plan short ones. Lerato Khumalo, who coaches our fitness programme, uses the same trick with her students: work in blocks of 25 minutes, then rest. Check the schedule each morning and put the hardest topic in the first slot with power.

Study in short blocks

Twenty-five minutes of focus is easier to protect than two hours. When the power cuts out, you lose a block, not a whole evening. Write down one thing you learned at the end of each block. It helps it stick.

Keep a power-cut plan

Charge your phone and power bank before the scheduled outage. Save lessons for offline viewing and keep a notebook nearby. Revise by hand or by talking out loud, and return to the screen when the lights come back on.

  1. Helpful read for teachers. The tips on planning lessons and recording them at home are practical, and I will share this with my colleagues in Fourways.

  2. Good insights on teaching online. Many of us struggle with data costs, so the advice here is very welcome. Well done to the whole team.
