An angle grinder is one of the most useful tools in a workshop, used for cutting steel, grinding welds, cleaning rust and cutting paving or tiles. It is also one of the most dangerous if used carelessly. The disc spins at very high speed, so choosing the right disc and keeping the guard in place are both essential.
Match the disc to the material and check that its rated speed suits your grinder. Wear safety glasses or a face shield, gloves and hearing protection, and keep bystanders well back. Hold the grinder firmly with both hands using the side handle. Let it reach full speed before cutting, and never force the disc into the work.
