Screen protectors that are worth it
A cracked screen is one of the most common reasons people bring a phone in for repair. A good screen protector takes the knock instead of your display, and costs a lot less to replace than the screen underneath.
Not every protector is worth buying though. Thin plastic film scratches fast and does little for drops, while a proper tempered glass protector adds real strength and still feels smooth under your thumb.
Tempered glass or plastic film
Plastic film is cheap and stops scratches, but it won't stop a crack if you drop your phone face down. Tempered glass is thicker and takes the impact itself. Our advice is to go for tempered glass if you want real protection, and keep film only as a cheap, short term option.
A screen protector only works if it is fitted properly. Dust under the glass or a crooked edge can leave a weak spot where a crack starts.

One tip that helps is using the dust stickers in the box to lift off any bits before sticking it down. If a bubble stays trapped, a slow second go usually sorts it out.
Check it fits your case
Some protectors sit slightly bigger than the screen and lift at the edges once your case goes back on. Measure against your case before you buy, or pick a protector made for your exact phone so the two sit together properly.
When to replace a protector
A protector with a deep scratch or crack has already done its job, it just needs swapping out. Replace it as soon as you notice damage, since a cracked protector can catch on your thumb and won't absorb another knock properly.
A screen protector is one of the cheapest ways to protect your phone. Pair it with a sturdy case and you cover both the front and the rest of the phone. It only takes a few minutes to fit and can save you a costly screen repair later.
