Where our suppliers farm

People often ask where our fruit and vegetables actually come from. The honest answer is small family farms across the Western Cape, from Elgin to the Overberg, each one visited by our team before we agree to stock a single crate.

We check the soil, ask how water is used, and make sure the certificate on the farmer's wall matches what is actually growing in the ground. If a farm cannot show us that, we do not buy from them.

Our Growers

We buy from small farms in Limpopo, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape. Most are family run, some for three generations. We visit each farm before we list a product, so we know how the soil is treated and how the fruit is picked.

No contracts that squeeze the farmer on price. We pay fair rates and plan orders ahead, so our suppliers can keep farming their own way.

Fair Prices

We agree a price with each farmer before the season starts, not after the harvest comes in. That way nobody is stuck selling at a loss just because it was a good year everywhere else. It costs us a little more in some seasons, but it means the farmers we rely on are still farming next year.

Next time you pick up a bag of our dried mango or a bottle of apple juice, it probably came from someone we have had tea with in their kitchen. That is not a line for the shelf, it is just how a small store like ours has to work for honestly sourced to mean anything.
