Study Methods That Help You Prepare for Exams

Most students think they need more hours. Often they need better methods. Lerato Nkosi, one of our lecturers, suggests studying in short blocks of 25 minutes with a five minute break. Test yourself instead of rereading your notes.

Start revising two weeks before a test, not two days. Our Study Tips articles and student support team can help you build a timetable that fits around work and family.

Use active recall

Close the book and write down everything you remember about a topic. Then check what you missed. This feels harder than highlighting, but it is what makes facts stick for exam day.

Sleep and space your revision

Revise the same topic on three different days instead of one long night. Get a proper night’s sleep before a test. Your memory settles while you rest, and you walk into the exam venue calmer.
