Protein is one of the most talked about nutrients in any gym, and there is a lot of noise around it. Here is what really matters for most people in Bellville.
Your body uses protein to repair muscle after training. Most active adults do well with a palm-sized portion at each meal. Nadia Abrahams, our Nutrition Coach, says food comes first and powders are only a handy extra.
Eat real food, spread your protein across the day and do not stress over perfect numbers. Nadia Abrahams, Nutrition CoachEggs, chicken, tinned fish, lentils, maas and Greek yoghurt are all affordable choices. If you are unsure how much you need, ask us for a quick nutrition chat at the studio.
How much protein do you need
Most active adults do well on about 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight each day. Spread it over three or four meals. Eggs, chicken, tinned pilchards, lentils and Greek yoghurt all count, and they are easy to find at any Bellville supermarket.
Protein myths worth ignoring
You do not need expensive shakes to build muscle. Food comes first. A shake is handy after a session when you are rushing, but it is only a top up. Ask Nadia Abrahams, our nutrition coach, if you are unsure about your own numbers.
