How to Start Lifting Weights Over 40

Starting weights after 40 is safe and worth it. Muscle and bone both respond to training at any age. Begin light, learn the basic movements and add weight slowly. Most of our members over 40 start with squats, rows and carries. Riaan Botha checks your form and works around old injuries or tight hips.

Train two or three days a week, sleep well and eat enough protein. Book a first session at our Bellville studio.

Begin with the basics

Learn the squat, hinge, push and pull with light weights first. Spend the first four weeks on form, not numbers. A good warm up and a slow build protect your knees, back and shoulders.

Why strength matters after 40

Strong muscles protect your joints, help with balance and keep daily life easy. Many members tell us they carry shopping, play with grandchildren and climb stairs better within two months.
